Jon McLaughlin + Conner Prairie

Posted by on Aug 27, 2012 in music, news | 1 comment

Okay, there’s something you should know about me. I’m not very good at keeping secrets. Especially when the secret is about something tremendously awesome. Since I’m about to explode from trying to contain all this excitement, so I’m just going to blurt it out:

I'm opening for Jon McLaughlin at Conner Prairie on Sept 1 and 2!

There, I said it. I feel way better now that I’ve told someone. And since you know about it, I guess there’s no harm in telling a few more people. Invite a few friends, tell your neighbor, bring your grandparents, buy a ticket for that special someone you’ve secretly been admiring (we share all our secrets, remember?). I’ll be opening up for Jon and the band Saturday and Sunday evening. Both nights are going to be amazing… especially if you and your grandparents are there!

Indiana State Fair

Summer is coming to a close. That means it’s almost time to go back to school. Ugh.

Rather than get depressed about summer ending, I say we make things interesting and go crazy at the Indiana State Fair together. Here’s the plan:

Meet me at the Indiana State Fairgrounds tomorrow, Friday, August 10. We’ll eat some deep fried Oreos, ride the ferris wheel, eat some deep fried Twinkies, marvel at the world’s largest pig, eat some deep fried Samoa Girl Scout cookies, and finish off our fun filled time together with some music.

I’m playing a series of shows on the XFINITY® Main Street Stage at 10:00AM, 12:00PM, 2:00PM and 4:00PM. So we’ll have tons of time to eat deep fried food and partake in other craziness together in between the music. Let’s make the fair our end of summer memory together. Deal? Okay, good… see you there!

CarmelFest 2012

Posted by on Jul 2, 2012 in news | 0 comments

It’s been hot. It’s been really, really hot.

It’s been so hot lately, there’s a ban on all fireworks in Marion county this 4th of July. If you love America and fireworks, this is disappointing news. So… now what? Well, I’m not giving up on celebrating America’s birthday and neither should you. I think you should definitely come to CarmelFest. Here’s one reason why:

I’m going to be there!

I’ll be playing a show at CarmelFest and I don’t want to make any crazy predictions here, but it might just save the 4th of July. So I’ll see you there and it’s been rumored that I’ll be playing a new song. My response to said rumored song playing: Maybe I am or maybe I am!

Here are all the details for CarmelFest. See you at 6:05PM!

So… I have a confession to make. I’ve been writing new music and I haven’t told you about it until just now.

I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. To make it up to you, I thought I’d share one of the new songs I’ve been working on. It’s called, “Worth the Risk.”

Oh, and I’ll be performing “Worth the Risk” on the Indianapolis NBC affiliate, WTHR Channel 13. Tune in and watch WTHR’s Weekend Morning Sunrise at 9:15AM this Saturday, April 14th. More importantly, I’ll be talking about a really amazing organization called GlamourGals. To learn more about this incredible organization and how to get involved, please visit their website: GlamourGals Foundation, Inc.

Now about that video I promised… here you go. Enjoy!

I wouldn’t get super excited when I write a new song because I would have no one to listen to it! So. Friends. I am simply thrilled to be able to now frequently update you on this new lovely website, whether it be shows, videos, or the current color of my nail polish:) Yay cyber communication!

Oh! Btdubs. I am playing at this awesome event tomorrow at Decatur Central High school….. you are totally invited. Get tix here:

This is Crazy!

Oh my gosh, God is just too good! Since I have last updated you, my new song Classics is being played on 99.5 wzpl, I have been on wish TV and my song was number 63 for the Indianapolis downloads chart! But wait the most exciting thing is yet to come…

Kelly Taylor and the Beez Kneez is opening for Hanson and Hot Chelle Rae for 99.5′s Jingle Jam!!!! Yes!! I said Hanson!

I’m sure you remember…. mid 90′s, long hair, Mmbop…ring any bells? We are playing at the Egyptian Room in the Murat Theater on December 1st! Please come and bring yo frans!!

On a more humbling note..

Last night I played my first show while sick. Thankfully it was just a coffee shop because my voice kept getting more hoarse and more hoarse. But no worries, I’m now drugged up, drinking hot tea, and watching parks and recreation so all is well.

With all of these music happenings I’m doing my best to keep a social life, let alone an acceptable GPA. But I’m learning that I can’t do everything, the Lord is showing me a lot about trust through all of this. Thank you to everyone who has supported me in any way, coming to a show, buying a song, or even just reading this blog! I am so grateful for all of the encouragement!

Oh and by the way I got my braces off. It’s no big deal. Just kidding its like the biggest deal!! I am so happy to have that wretched metal out of my mouth. Except now they gave me a retainer that I have to wear during the day for a while. Thats funny.

Ok well November is packed with shows so see if you can make it to one! I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Sand Piles, and My One Stop Tour

Posted by on Sep 10, 2011 in music, news | 0 comments

My dearest loyal readers (or not loyal, i don’t mind, just thank you for reading),

I hope all of you have heard by now the new song i posted about 2 months ago called Fallin’. Its the one about my pile of sand.

The whole thing is one big analogy.

I think I’m so cool because I have built this big pile of sand on the beach. I’m thinking “Heck, yeah! Look what I did!” But its not until I step back and see the whole beach that I realize how petty and temporary my pile of sand is compared to the scene in it’s entirety.

The warm breathtaking sun slowly turning from yellow to orange as it begins to hide behind the sea. The thin pink clouds dancing across the sky. The ocean that stretches further than I can see or comprehend. The soft sound of the waves that wash in and out on the shore. And the sand. The million tiny grains of sand that gather in one place to make a beach that goes on for miles. A gentle breeze brushes my “so called big pile of sand” away.

I finally realize then, that everything I have is a gift. I did nothing to earn or deserve this gift of music, but it was given to me. If I keep it for myself, and leave the one who gave it to me out of the picture, I will only be a part of things that are temporary and small. But if I use what I have for Him, and completely give back, I can be apart of something that is beautiful, breathtaking, and eternal. He can use me to show more people that a pile of sand will never be enough.

In other news:

I went to Boise Idaho and played in the street market there. It was my one stop tour.Playing in the street was…. exactly like it sounds. Super awkward setting up and opening the guitar case hoping people will be generous. And then… well… just playing, no mic & no amp.

To my surprise my biggest audience was toddlers, the occasional old man, and middle aged woman. Now i’m not complaining, Ill play for any one who will stop and listen, I was thrilled that I even got a few to stop! All together it was one of the most fun experiences! I actually got to talk to people as they walked by.

People are so nice! It was incredible that complete strangers were nice enough to throw in a couple bucks or even come and start a conversation! Although some of my company may have been because i had lollipops on my table, I still consider it an accomplishment!

School has started and there are so many things that are new and exciting in regards to the music.
I will tell you one thing though, my new song classics is completely ready and you all will be hearing it very very soon!

Keep checking for updates and stop by at my show on the 17th! Come say hi afterwards! Hope you all have a day filled with love, laughter, and fun things!

Yours Truly,

Let’s Start With The Basics

This is so cool.. I’m a blogger!

This blog will mostly be for updating everyone while I pursue a career in music. I should go ahead and mention now that I have a Facebook artist page, and were you to go “like” the page, I would be eternally grateful.

A few essential things you need to know:

  • I go to Heritage Christian (located in Indianapolis, IN)
  • I am a religious watcher of Parks and Recreation
  • I’m a strong fan Indian Food, especially from the restaurant on 82nd street Taj of India
  • I also love snow cones but I thought that would be nasty to have these foods next to each other so I made a separate line for snow cones
  • I absolutely love writing and performing music
  • I recorded a six-song CD in January 2011 called Tell Your’s on a pal, check it out.
  • I started playing solo shows a few years ago but in the past year I’ve had the accompanying help of a quality group of players (Joy Bergman, Ben Cooley, James Harris, Jake Huff), bringing the full stage name to “Kelly Taylor and the Beez Kneez.” It’s a good time.
  • I just got back from Orangehaus music business camp in anderson where I recorded two new songs! One of which you can find on called Fallin’ The other has yet to be uploaded but I will let you know when I do.
  • My main goal is for as many people to hear my music as possible. I have no idea how far this will go or how the Lord is going to use my music but I’m going to keep playing, writing, and ultimately just keep going for it and I know God will do his thing. He puts the music in me. I just put it on paper.

Ok well Im going to go get ice cream and read aloud to myself but its been fun and keep checking for more posts!
